Camp Creative

Paragraph Title

Founded in 2008 as a weeklong theatre camp, teens learned and participated in all aspects of musical theatre- acting, dancing, set design, stage crew and music - to collectively work towards a final 45-minute main stage production. In 2020, the camp expanded to include other forms of creative expression while continuing to empower youth leadership, improve social skills and increase positive self-esteem.

From our young adult coaches with real life experience in acting, dancing, music, and production, who serve as mentors rewarding tees as star performers who excel in their leadership, artistic achievement or as peer mediators to our one-day trip to Chicago's premier regional theatre company, the Goodman Theatre, where Resident Director Chuck Smith lead a tour of the Theatre, shared tips and gave a peek behind the scenes to campers, this experience is one children come back to and parents salute.

CAMP CREATIVE

A week-long creative experience in partnership with Hallelujah Temple that brings to life all aspects of production and performance while building skill, positive esteem, and confidence in youth.

Virtual Camp Creative

In 2020, a year of pandemic, isolation, doubt, loneliness, and sometimes despair, having a safe space and positive outlet for youth and teens seemed a necessity. Purposing to deal with the realities of the moment, Camp Creative restructured a virtual program that connected Campers to each other while encouraging them to think beyond their physical limitations, embrace their creativity and be bold enough to individually share.

Camp Creative was founded in 2008 by Myrna R. Herndon, a producer/writer  who has a passion for both the youth and the arts. Combining these passions she instituted a community program for youth in the southern suburbs of Illinois, partnering with Hallelujah Temple to provide Camp Creative free of cost to all.

In addition, she mentors young professionals in music, acting, dance and design who serve as Camp Coaches.
